Amadou
Diabagaté

I work on artificial intelligence that people in Côte d’Ivoire can use in their own languages. My main project today is a 500-hour speech corpus in Dioula, the groundwork for voice assistants in that language.

What I work on

Speech and language technology for Ivorian languages

I lead MEY-D26, a Masakhane-funded project collecting 500 hours of read and spontaneous Dioula speech in Abidjan, Bouaké, Korhogo, Séguéla, Bondoukou and Kong. The recordings are gathered on KAN, an open collection platform built at Centre IDTDS, and transcribed by Ivorian linguists.

About MEY-D26

AI for health

With clinicians at the Faculty of Medicine, I work on agent-based simulation of clinical management, fuzzy models of patient satisfaction, prediction of thrombocytopenia and mortality in patients with atrial fibrillation, and tuberculosis. Musow Kènèya, a voice assistant answering maternal health questions in Dioula, is now in pilot.

About Musow Kènèya

Cities, energy and farms

I use trajectory data from Abidjan to estimate traffic density where road sensors are scarce, multi-agent systems to manage data from smart electricity meters, and deep learning to recognise diseases of yam, cassava and plantain with ANADER, the national agricultural extension agency.

Research topics

Multi-agent systems

I have published on multi-agent architectures since my early work on public procurement in Morocco. Recent applications include hospital workflows and the detection of malicious PDF files.

Background

I started programming in 2005, in my first year at university in Tangier. I lived in Morocco for twelve years, where I earned my engineering degree and my doctorate, worked in the private sector and taught at the Faculty of Sciences and Technologies of Tangier. My thesis designed a decision support information system for public procurement governance, combining fuzzy logic, AHP, supervised learning, ontologies, multi-agent systems and Big Data.

Back in Côte d’Ivoire, I joined Université Félix Houphouët-Boigny in 2018 and ran the information system of a ministry for a little over two years. I held research stays at ENSAE-ENSAI in Paris (2019) and at the LISSI laboratory of Université Paris-Est Créteil (2020), then took part in programmes with KOICA in Seoul (2024) and ITEC in Ahmedabad (2025).

Outside work I read history, in particular the Dioula trading networks and the kingdom of Kong.
